My Story
I formed the Spalding Law Center in 2009 to create a boutique consumer rights law office law that maintains integrity and excellence in an unpretentious comfortable setting. I had concluded that bigger is not always better, after spending many years managing the largest consumer bankruptcy firm in the country. I was ready to run a firm my way, in which client satisfaction and sympathy are beyond comparison, while quality work product and service is not sacrificed in the pursuit of business growth and the almighty dollar.
Our practice has since added another attorney, paralegal, and managing director that share my goal of always putting our current clients first. I attended law school with the ambition of a career in the public interest. My activities and internships revolved around this concentration, and I chose Chicago Legal Clinic and Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation as my introductory work experiences so that I could support equal access to the legal system. I never wanted to work for big business. Helping real people has always been my goal, and these experiences were informative and fulfilling.
After law school I continued working at Chicago Legal Clinic, where I felt what an honor it is to represent poor people and afford them legal representation that they may not have otherwise. I helped clients mainly with family law, real estate, and bankruptcy issues. I joined what is now Macey & Aleman dba Legal Helpers PC during the year after my admission to the Illinois bar. I wanted to keep on serving individuals directly while focusing on just one area of the law where I could become an expert; bankruptcy.
I solidified my decision that I much prefer to protect the average person rather than corporate creditors in legal battles, during my tenure there. I wore practically every hat possible in a consumer bankruptcy law firm. I began my bankruptcy career by speaking to thousands of clients from across the country via phone, and by conducting in person intake consultations for several hundreds of new clients. I personally filed thousands of consumer bankruptcy matters.
I rapidly advanced to managing the other attorneys and support staff in the Chicago office. After several years managing the main office, I expanded into national operations by acting as liaison with the firm partners and the outlying offices in which I hired, trained, and managed all levels of staff in over 20 locations. Additionally, I spent several years managing all of the Cook County bankruptcy litigation and Chapter 13 matters for the firm.
Philosophy on Client Representation
I recognize that our clients are often confused and stressed. I respond by being very patient, and make sure my clients feel like they are being heard, and have an opportunity to get all of their questions answered. I expect the same of my staff, and remind them to make our clients feel like part of our family. I think it is important to properly gather information from our clients in the beginning of the process, and to carefully prepare our legal work so that we have a quality product. As a result, our work is respected in the legal community, mistakes are rare, we have a 100% success rate, an A rating with the Better Business Bureau, and no client complaints.
